Empire Mine State Historic Park, 1 mi. e. of SR 49 at 10791 E. Empire St., produced nearly 6 million ounces of gold during its operation. Within the park are 10 miles of hiking trails and a mine with 367 miles of passageways. Restored buildings include the owner's cottage, clubhouse, a smithy, hoist and compression houses and a machine shop. Living-history tours, with guides in period garb; a scale model of the underground workings of the mine; and guided tours of the cottage, mine yard and gardens are offered.

Picnic facilities are in the parking area; food is not permitted inside the park.

Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
