Amber Museum (Museo del Ámbar Dominicano)

Amber Museum (Museo del Ámbar Dominicano) is on the second floor of the Villa Bentz at the corner of Calle Duarte and Padre Castellanos. Housed in an early 20th-century mansion built by wealthy German merchants, the museum features a large collection of amber. One particularly rare specimen contains a perfectly preserved small lizard. Exhibits describe how the gem is formed and how and where it is mined in the Dominican Republic. Visitors can also see samples of copal, which is relatively young resin that has not completely hardened into amber.
