AAA Editor Notes
José Luis Cuevas Museum (Museo José Luis Cuevas) is at Calle Academia #13, 2 blks. e. of the Zócalo. It occupies the former Convent of Santa Inés, completed in 1612; the carvings on the doors at the corner of Calle Moneda depict the saint's life and death as well as portraits of the convent's founders.

Cuevas, a highly regarded contemporary artist, was associated with the “La Ruptura” artistic movement of the 1950s. One of his signature achievements was the monumental bronze sculpture “La Giganta” (The Giantess), which stands in the center of the building's patio. In addition to Cuevas works (and many self-portraits of the artist painted by others), the museum presents temporary exhibitions focusing on emerging Latin American artists.
